Mengapa Postur Tubuh Itu Penting? (sumber SheKnows)

Seringkali kita melihat seseorang yang memiliki postur tubuh kurang baik, seperti tubuh yang condong ke depan, atau badan yang bungkuk. Pada orangtua, pemandangannya lebih menakutkan ketika mereka bersusah payah untuk memungut sesuatu di lantai, dan susah payah pula untuk menegakkan kembali tubuhnya.

Anda mengira, semua itu terjadi secara alami. Memang ada orang-orang yang dilahirkan dengan postur tubuh seperti itu. Tetapi ternyata tidak. Postur tubuh yang baik merupakan bagian integral dari kesehatan fisik dan mental. Postur yang kurang baik bisa dikoreksi, karena kalau tidak, postur buruk itu akan jadi permanen. Anda pun menderita di kemudian hari.

Margaret Richard, penulis buku Body Electric, mengatakan bahwa postur yang sehat membutuhkan latihan dengan cara berdiri, berjalan, duduk, dan berbaring, dalam posisi yang menempatkan sedikit ketegangan saja pada otot-otot dan ligamen yang mendukungnya. Tulang belakang terdiri atas 33 tumpukan tulang (disebut vertebra, atau ruas tulang belakang), yang disangga oleh piringan-piringan. Piringan-piringan ini, bersama cairan tulang belakang, akan melindungi saraf-saraf tulang belakang. Namun, hal ini tidak cukup. Postur tubuh Andalah yang terutama akan melindungi tulang belakang dan bagian tubuh Anda lainnya dari cidera.

Postur tubuh yang kurang baik akan menyebabkan nyeri yang panas di bagian leher dan pundak, sakit di punggung bawah, dan sakit kepala. Sesuatu yang menimbulkan sakit pastilah karena ada sesuatu yang memicunya. Dalam hal ini, nyeri tersebut bisa disembuhkan dengan memperbaiki postur tubuh Anda. Menurut Dr Beverly Marr, pencipta The Soar Method for Perfect Posture, postur yang baik tak hanya akan menghilangkan rasa sakit, tetapi juga meningkatkan tingkat energi dan pencernaan Anda.

Tubuh seharusnya memiliki kesejajaran dari kepala sampai kaki. Tetapi ketika Anda membungkuk ke arah keyboard atau duduk merosot di kursi, lama-kelamaan kesejajaran tubuh bisa berubah. Perubahan struktur ini tidak hanya menyebabkan nyeri di tubuh, tetapi juga kesehatan Anda secara keseluruhan.

“Saat Anda duduk merosot, Anda tidak bisa menarik nafas dengan baik, yang dapat memengaruhi tingkat energi, dan pencernaan pun harus menyesuaikan karena Anda memampatkan perut Anda,” kata Dr Marr. Dengan berdiri atau duduk tegak, Anda terlihat lebih jangkung, lebih langsing, lebih muda, dan lebih percaya diri.

Ia juga mengatakan, beberapa latihan dapat membantu meregangkan dan menguatkan tubuh menjadi sejajar sempurna. Namun, Anda disarankan untuk selalu memeriksa postur tubuh saat beraktivitas sehari-hari, sehingga lama-kelamaan Anda jadi terbiasa. Ini yang bisa Anda latih sendiri untuk mendapatkan postur tubuh sempurna:

* Saat berdiri, telinga, pundak, dan pinggul, harus dalam garis lurus.
* Dagu dan kepala tidak condong ke depan.
* Perut harus dikempeskan dan tegak, pusar diarahkan ke tulang belakang.
* Pundak seharusnya rileks, mengarah ke bawah dengan posisi terbuka (tidak melengkung ke depan).
* Ketika berdiri, berat badan harus disangga sama rata oleh kedua kaki.
* Ketika duduk, telapak kaki harus rata di lantai, dan tulang belakang beristirahat di sandaran kursi.
* Saat bekerja, jangan mencondongkan leher untuk melihat layar komputer. Jaga agar punggung dan leher tetap lurus.

Do you feel confident in your body? In your health?

I’m not just talking about being confident in your birthday suit. I’m talking about a-healthy-and-strong attitude—in your clothes or out!

Or an I-can-climb-two-more-flights-of-stairs type of feel-good!

If you answered no—you’re not alone!

Body confidence isn’t just a problem for those who struggle with being overweight. Even skinny and just-right-sized people are plagued with insecurities about their body. They don’t feel good in their clothes. They don’t feel good in their skin.

Others avoid anything that gets them out of breath (stairs, for example), and they believe that genetically, they just don’t have the genes to lose weight and get fit.

Or, they believe that getting out of breath comes with age. And since they’re not overweight, they’re doing just fine.

And still, others believe that being at risk for high blood pressure and high cholesterol is just part of the mix—age, genetics, destiny!

A lot of this is a result of negative thinking—excuses, insecurities and outright lies—ingrained by something, yourself, your parents, your friends, mixed messages…

But some of these mind-body issues are the results of little to no physical activity!

In one of gym club in Jakarta, the results showed that all participants experienced less body image dissatisfaction by exercising three times a week, minimally.

It’s amazing at how staying active affects mentality!

And did you know that I’ve met many active 60-something men and women who have more life and vitality than most men and women in their 20s!

In fact, do you remember what it was like to be 6 years old and you thought you ran as fast as lightening?

With the wind in your face and the ground propelling you forward, you felt as if you could take off, straight to the moon!

At 6 anything is possible, right?

You don’t have to be 6 to feel that good again.
